Hello!

My name is Ben Massie. I’m a documentary filmmaker out of the flatlands of Indiana. My work is primarily character-driven and observational. I don't show up with a script for what a story should be — I'd rather spend the time, stay quiet, and let the camera find what's actually there. The best moments in my films are the ones nobody planned.

Documentary speaks to me in a way that nothing invented ever could. I'm drawn to real people in real places — the quiet fields of the Midwest, grand landscapes of the American West, and everywhere in between — exploring the way their lives are shaped by the world around them. That's where raw humanity lives. And when a film gets close enough to one person's story, something strange happens: it stops being about them. The personal becomes universal.
